How do I identify good quality biochar?

Good biochar is: lightweight, fully black/charred all the way through (not brown or partially burnt), porous (holds water when wet), free of foul smell, and low in ash content. Poor quality biochar looks brownish, feels heavy, or has a burnt/tar smell.

What is vermicompost?

Organic manure produced by earthworms breaking down organic waste.

Rich in nutrients and beneficial microbes, it improves soil structure, water retention, and root development.

How do I identify good quality vermicompost?

Good vermicompost is dark brown to black, crumbly (not lumpy or wet/sticky), has a mild earthy smell (never a foul/rotten smell), and is free of stones, plastic, or undecomposed waste. It should feel like fine soil in your hand.

How is vermicompost different from regular compost?

Vermicompost is processed by earthworms, which makes nutrients more readily available to plants and adds beneficial microbes that regular compost doesn't have in the same concentration.

What is PROM fertilizer?

An organic fertilizer enriched with rock phosphate for long-term phosphorus supply.

It supplies phosphorus along with organic matter, improving soil fertility over time without the harshness of chemical phosphate fertilizers.

How do I identify good quality PROM?

Good PROM has a uniform, fine granular or powder texture, dark colour, no foul odour, and should carry a certified phosphorus content on the packaging (check FCO specification compliance).

What are biostimulants?

Natural formulations that boost plant stress tolerance and nutrient uptake - not fertilizers themselves.

Made from seaweed extract, amino acids, or humic substances, they help crops perform better under heat, drought, or poor soil, working alongside (not instead of) regular fertilizers.

How do I identify a healthy nursery plant before buying?

Look for: firm green leaves (no yellowing/wilting), a strong root ball (not root-bound or falling apart), no visible pest damage or disease spots, and a straight, sturdy stem/trunk for grafted plants.
